The Pizza Cave Introduces Texas Chowder

Being a native New Englander I came to Austin with a hardwired set of preferences for my pizza joints of New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York. But then I found a new joint in Dripping Springs called The Pizza Cave.

They have fantastic New York style pies, but unlike many of the East Coast places I was used to that were more on the spartan side with their menus, The Pizza Cave also serves a variety tasty pasta dishes as well.

And then proprietor Joe Cave starting making soups. The first that I got to try was the ridiculously good Piggie Chowder (think New England style clam chowder but with pork instead of clams). Next Joe produced a creamy pepper soup that was an instant hit with his customer base and me as well!

And my unfolding infatuation with The Pizza Cave has continued unabated through many iterations of soups. Now Joe has rolled out another soup. It’s called the Texas Chowder – similar to the Piggie, but instead of the pork it’s Joe’s mesquite-smoked brisket along with banana peppers.

I haven’t tried it yet, but from Joe’s description it sounds darn near perfect. So, my dear readers, I hope you try it soon. And please let me know how you like it. I’ll be doing the same thing soon!
