Why the Old Maxim “Location Means Everything” Doesn’t Mean Much to the Owners of Hays City Store

Tamra and Travis Tindol own a bustling restaurant/cafe out in Driftwood called Hays City Store & Ice House.

We kind of stumbled across it over the weekend as we took a drive for the purpose of not going completely berserk after weeks of being cooped up in our house.

I put my mask on and stood behind the first social distancing marker and asked if I could see a menu. Shortly after, I met owners Tamra and Travis Tindol. Nice people. And also quite attentive to the health and safety needs of their customers and staff.

I also talked with several (distanced) groups of regular customers who told me they came 2-3 times per week despite having to make a 20-minute drive.

So here in what could arguably be called “the sticks” we have a busy restaurant that not unlike county neighbor The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que pulls customers in from considerable distances.

Marge and I will be going back soon to sit in their expansive outside dining area and sample from the menu. I’ll report my food tasting experiences but from what I observed on that first visit I have a hunch it’ll be pretty darn good!
