Verde’s Mexican Parrilla on Hamilton Pool Road Still Delivering Quality

Verde's Mexican Parrilla pork chop

A few years back when I was doing TV food reviews on KVUE, I became very partial to the food at Verde’s Mexican Parrilla on Hamilton Pool Road. I wanted to tape a review there but unfortunately that never came to pass. The GM of KVUE at the time was the mother of the wife of the husband and wife team that had begun the restaurant and was concerned about the appearance of impropriety were I to have done the review.

Well that was then, but this is now. Joel and his wife still run Verde’s, but my formal relationship with KVUE has ended. We dined at Verde’s recently and the food is still crackling good so there’s no reason for me not to share my opinion with our readers.

Verde’s Mexican Parilla is an atmospheric grill with a warm, smoky ambience. They have always been known for their Chile Relleno, but there are other dishes I would urge you to try. The grilled pork chop in a chipotle glaze accompanied by poblano mashers is a stellar dish, with a comfortable flavor profile and wonderfully smooth texture. If you think the preceding picture looks appealing you will doubtlessly love this dish. Our server remarked it was one of their best selling entrees and after tasting it, I can see why.

Verde's Mexican Parrilla Shrimp Limon

The Shrimp Limon is an appetizer that makes a very subtle and nuanced impression on the palate. I’ve had dishes like this in the past and there’s a tendency on the part of the chef to overstate the lemon flavor in the sauce. I detected no such error from the chef at Verde’s. In fact, the dish was flawless and my only disappointment was that an entree size version was not available.

When you try Verde’s (and I highly recommend that you do), you’ll see a mixed breed pooch roaming around the parking lot. He apparently belongs to the folks who live in the house adjacent to the restaurant. He’s quite friendly so no worries, but he apparently sees the lot as his fiefdom. I really can’t fault his protective countenance because he is watching over one hell of a restaurant.
