Russian House – Varda

Had my first look at the interior of the new Russian House on 5th and Trinity (next to Rival’s Steakhouse) and received assurance from co-owner Varda that the long-awaited opening will actually occur on Friday evening, October 19th.

Her husband, Chef Vladamir and GM Constantine have decorated the place with Russian kitsch so that it looks like something out of the Tsar’s Winter Palace. The menu will be eclectic and include a wide range of Russian dishes There’s a communal dining area, several private dining rooms decorated in classic Russian styles, and the main dining room which appears to seat about 85-90. There’s also a stage and dance floor as the couple plan for music to be an integral part of the dining experience at The Russian House.

I have had my share of borscht and stroganoff over the years but nothing much beyond that. So I can’t wait to try the Ukha, a sort of soup/stew that was a favorite of the Tsar and made with a Rooster, small fishes, crawfish, perch and sturgeon. Or how about the Khash which has a background from both Armenia and Georgia? And of course, there will be much vodka.
