A New Look at P.F. Chang’s on Jollyville Rd.

PF Chang's Austin Texas

I generally try to focus my reviews on restaurants I would recommend that you try, but a return visit to P.F. Chang’s on Jollyville Rd. (where they originally opened some years ago) prompted a somewhat different reaction.

As it always has been, the place was crowded, even for a late Saturday afternoon. The service was a bit slow but that was understandable.

The food, however, was well below average. The egg rolls were greasy and overcooked. The dim sum, namely Cecilia’s Shrimp Dumplings, were lacking in flavor and had a disappointing textural presence. The Shrimp Lo Mein had a bit too much oil for my taste and that really detracted from the dish.

I mentioned to our server that we couldn’t find Dan Dan Noodles on the menu but she said they could still make it. However, I chose not to order it. When a restaurant removes a dish from a menu yet still will prepare it … well, that makes me uncomfortable.

We shall give this spot another try in the not too distant future. As always, we’ll let you know!
