The Dog and Duck Pub, one of Austin’s most popular and iconic “joints” at 17th and Guadalupe will close its doors on October 31st. Proprietor Susan Forrester and her staff had seen this coming, but didn’t expect it till the end of December. So they had to launch into some speedy discussions with various landlords, and are now involved in negotiations with a property at Webberville and East 7th.

Forrester said, “It’s got what we need. Plenty of parking, a deck, a bar, and lots of room.”

She told me that if all goes well, their goal would be to open on February 1st of next year. Susan is a class act, and I’m happy for her. And just how in the hell could Austin survive without the D&D anyway? Susan’s crew had looked at the space of a former restaurant on Manor, but the owners wanted to sell, rather than lease the property.

At any rate, if you don’t think you could last another five months without some Bubble and Squeak, you’d better head over to the current location. You’ve got 8 days. Normally, when we post a closing, it’s just that. But this scenario has a potentially happy ending. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted for more details.
