Ginos Vino Osteria Caprese

The real beauty of Gino’s Vino Osteria in Round Rock is its authenticity and the evocative simplicity of its gorgeous dishes like the classic Caprese salad pictured above, featuring home-crafted mozzarella with gorgeous tomatoes and Balsamic vinegar.

The pasta is also house-made daily and is splendid in its artisanal simplicity. The Linguine Nero in a white clam sauce is exquisitely tasty and is a dish I will most certainly order on my next visit. Linguine Nero is a classic in coastal Italian cuisine, drawing the bluish-black ink from squid or cuttlefish. When properly prepared the color of the pasta is striking and the flavor is equally remarkable. In short, Gino’s absolutely nails this one. Best version of this I’ve tried around town.

The Veal Piccata paid homage to the classic traditions of this dish with milk fed veal perfectly pounded and expertly sautéed in a white wine lemon caper sauce. Delicioso!!!

Ginos Vino Osteria Tortellini

Another very engaging dish was the Tortellini di Formaggio (pictured above). The tender house-made shells were stuffed with four fragrant and substantive cheeses in a tasty yet masterfully understated Alfredo sauce. My wife absolutely loved this offering, so much so that she was a bit reluctant to share it with me. 🙂

In fact, every dish that comes from the kitchen does not escape the discerning eyes of either Gino or Mike. The result of their involvement insures a delicious and convivial evening. This is what happens when old school meets new age. It just makes it all that more enjoyable.
