Phil's Icehouse Opens on Burnet

The owners of Amy's Ice Cream have opened their first non ice cream restaurant on Burnet. Named in honor of one of the founding partners of Amy's, it's called Phil's Icehouse. The menu features mini-burgers (sliders) and intriguing french fries that feature both white and sweet pototoes. Of course if all else fails, you can still get a scoop of Amy's ice cream there. Good News for Fans of John Mueller’s BBQ: He Reopens in Bastrop

After closing his popular BBQ store on Manor Rd, John Mueller has reopened in Bastrop under the name Old Town BBQ. It’s on Pine St. just off of Main.

This will be good news to a loyal group of Austin fans who will probably think nothing of making the trek to Bastrop for JM’s fare: not to mention what it portends for those who live in the Bastrop area.

Heading Out to Lakeway for the Kinko’s Classic Golf Tournament This Weekend? Dining Suggestions

Ciola’s - Nifty southern Italian restaurant on 620 in Village of Lakeway. Great wine selection as well.

Hudson’s on the Bend - Jeff Blank’s perpetual classic with everything from wild game to more domestic fare.

Sandy’s Hamburger Hut - I love the cheeseburgers here. And the breakfasts are great a well.

Iguana Grill - Overlooking the lake, a terrific spot for Mexican.

Pao’s Mandarin - Both Amreicanized and mainland style Chinese food at Lohman’s Crossing and 620. Great!

Hill Country Pasta House - Next to Hundson’s: really neat Pizza and Pasta restaurant.

Thai Spice - Great little Thai spot down from Ciola’s. Love the Pad Kee Mao and the sushi.

The Oasis - Further up 620, but also worth the trip for good TEX MEX and spectacular vistas.

Mizo Sushi - New sushi restaurant at Lohman’s Crossing and 620. Love the rolls and the sashimi.

Beers from New Belgium Brewing and Great Food at Cool River on May 12

My son-in-law is a fine beer fanatic and he gives New Belgium brewing of Ft. Collins, Colorado a thumbs up. So when I told him about the upcoming dinner at Cool River on May 12, at 7:30pm featuring four distinctive New Belgium brews and a four-course meal by the indomitable Jamie Gutierrez, he was buzzed.

For only $38.95 per person, this beer and food fest is a steal.
