December 7th Dinners Across the City Raise Almost $35,000 for the Deployed Soldiers and Families Fund at Ft. Hood

Fantastic, Austin!

Ronald Cheng spearheaded a city-wide event on December 7th from his base at Chinatown Mopac. Restaurants all across Austin gave a portion of their proceeds from the evening to the Deployed Soldiers and Families Fund at Ft. Hood.

Thus far, almost $35,000 has been collected and given to Ft. Hood. That will go a long way toward helping families visit their wounded soldiers in hospitals. And there’s no end to the event. Anyone wishing to donate to this very worthy cause can simply call Ronald Cheng at 343-9307.

Family-Friendly Dandelion Café Opens in Austin

The Dandelion Café has opened at 1115 E. 11th St., in the heart of the new commercial enterprise zone on E. 11th.

This is a breakfast and lunch kind of place. Tried the Breakfast Pie (sort of a frittata) which was quite good. Also very tasty is the Dr. Mark’s granola, which they make at the restaurant. And their Brazillian coffee is excellent. For lunch, they offer a variety of sandwiches, including an intriguing Italian Grilled Cheese and a comfort inducing PB&J! Also a variety of soups and healthier fare such as Black Beans and Rice.

The owners, Stepanie Schoonover and Marybeth Casias, wanted to do something with good food that was fun and casual. And they’ve succeeded. Now all they need is an infusion of customers. So head over to the Dandelion for breakfast or lunch. Hours are Monday-Friday from 7AM-3PM and Saturday from 8AM-3PM. www.dandelioncafe.com
