Another Westlake Restaurant Failure: Lion and Rose Closes

Posted by on Jan 24, 2013 in Closings

I don’t know what dark voodoo vibes pervade the HEB shopping center in Westlake at 360 and Bee Caves. But the place has been an ongoing disaster zone for restaurants, both locally-owned and chains, over the past 7-8 years.

The latest casualty is the Austin version of the pub grub and grog chain the Lion and Rose. Reviews were mixed about this place, but frankly I thought it would make it. But there is something about that location, particularly that building, that just does not bode well for all who attempt a restaurant there.

But don’t despair, The Dog and Duck just north of downtown is in fine form and Haddington’s is clicking along. Also let’s not forget Irish-styled Fado.

As for what will go in to the soon-to-be-vacated building, your guess is as good as mine. Smart money says it will be some kind of retail store!
